Cybersecurity is the protection of computer systems from theft or damage to their hardware, software or electronic data, as well as from disruption or misdirection of the services they provide. Due to the growth of "smart" devices, including smartphones and various tiny devices (IP cameras, etc.) that constitute the Internet of things (IoT), its importance has been increasing dramatically. The incident of Mirai in 2016 is a good example -- a malware that turned networked devices running Linux, primarily IP cameras and home routers, into remotely controlled "bots" (web robots) and used them in large-scale network attacks.
To strengthen the capacity of our domestic IP-camera surveillance systems against such cybersecurity threats, with the support of Industrial Development Bureau (IDB) of Ministry of Economic Affairs (MoEA), Taiwan Association of Information and Communication Standards (TAICS) invited companies including Chunghwa Telecom, D-Link Corporation, Onward Security, Gapertise Inc., Digicentre Company Limited, A Test Lab Technology Corporation, Synology Inc., Vivotek Inc., Underwriters Laboratories Inc, GeoVision Inc., HI SHARP Electronics Co., Ltd, and Synology Inc., as well as institutions from Industrial Technology Research Institute, Electronics Testing Center, Taiwan, Institute for Information Industry, and Telecom Technology Center to jointly discuss and establish the “Video Surveillance System Security Standards” which is based on international standards and specifications.
This series of test specifications together with corresponding standards will help domestic surveillance system companies introduce cybersecurity countermeasures in their product development, thereby reducing the cost of subsequent repairs, increasing product value, fulfilling international market needs and enhancing export competitiveness.
The English version of the series TAICS TS-0015: Cybersecurity Test Specifications for Video Surveillance System are available at this web site. You are welcome to download and cite them. Totally 4 files are attached.
