The fourth stage of the industrial revolution, also known as smart manufacturing, heralds an entirely new era. Its goal is to significantly improve the flexibility, versatility, usability and efficiency of production systems and to make the vision of smart factories come true. In this context, wireless communication – in particular 5G – is a key enabler. It provides powerful and pervasive communication between machines, people and objects.
5G-ACIA’s mission is to ensure the best possible application of 5G technology and of 5G networks for the industrial domain. Join this 5G-ACIA Webinars to explore how 5G-ACIA is working on the framework design for Industrial 5G and get in direct contact with the experts from 5G-ACIA.

PART 1
Industrial 5G Devices – Architecture and Capabilities
Speaker: Dr. Jens Jakobsen, Labs Development Manager, HMS Networks
Moderator: Andrea Daquino, Infineon, 5G-ACIA WG4 Chair
5G enables reliable, low-latency, high-bandwidth data transmission, making it a key technology for the future of industrial communications. The introduction of 5G to factories and a wide range of other industrial facilities is also creating a need for industrial devices that support the 5G standard.
In this webinar the main types of 5G devices are presented and a number of real-world examples discussed while describing the most important technical issues, challenges, and solutions involved in each case. On a more theoretical level, reference architectures are then presented for the most common types of industrial 5G devices, including generic block diagrams. Finally the pros and cons of various implementation options are discussed.
PART 2
Industrial 5G Edge Computing – Use Cases, Architecture and Deployment
Speaker: Benedek Kovác, Edge Computing Expert, Head of Technology and Innovation Ericsson Hungary R&D, Ericsson
Moderator: Andrea Daquino, Infineon, 5G-ACIA WG4 Chair
We will overview the most important use cases, especially focusing on how they motivate edge computing. Then we will examine the standardized network capabilities as well as deployment models in order to explain how edge computing can benefit industrial use cases in general and in particular.

PART 1
Integration of OPC UA in 5G Networks
Speaker: Onur Ayan, Research Engineer, Huawei
Moderator: Andrea Daquino, Infineon, 5G-ACIA WG4 Chair
OPC UA is a platform-independent standard that is used for communication among various types of devices and systems in the industrial domain. In order to integrate OPC UA FX with the 5G system, it is important to understand the core principles of the OPC UA, since the 5G system is the medium for establishing and maintaining connectivity between the components and various automation functions represented by FunctionalEntities (FEs). This whitepaper gives an overview of OPC UA FX, provides insights into its integration with 5G systems and assesses its technology readiness level.
PART 2
5G Non-public-networks (NPNs) for Industrial Scenarios
Speaker: Atte Lansisalmi, Principal Standardization Lead, Nokia
Moderator: Andrea Daquino, Infineon, 5G-ACIA WG4 Chair
This presentation discusses key findings from a 5G-ACIA whitepaper on 5G NPNs that was published this year in April. 5G NPNs are already used for industrial applications today in various configurations. The most important criteria in selecting the NPN deployment type is to assure it meets the needs of the intended use. Therefore, we start our analysis from real life-type example industrial operation scenarios, which were contributed by the OT members in 5G-ACIA. Then, as contributed by our ICT members, we present example NPN deployment options that support the use cases, are based on standard technology and are in line with the market offering today. From there we discuss the different aspects that affect selecting the deployment option.
