Puneet Jain is a Sr. Principal Engineer and Sr. Director of Technical Standards in the Next Generation and Standards (NGS) Group at Intel Corporation. He has been working at Intel, USA since 2001. He is head of the Network Standards team at Intel and is responsible for driving research and standardization on end-to-end network architecture for mobile broadband technologies such as 5G, 5G-Adv, and 6G.
Puneet is an accomplished leader with 25+ years of rich experience in standardization, research, and product development in the telecom and wireless industry. He has actively participated in various global standardization bodies that include 3GPP, Next G Alliance (US 6G), ATIS, TSDSI, ETSI TC M2M, oneM2M, GSMA, WiMAX Forum, IEEE 802.16j, and NPF. He has delivered numerous keynotes/webinars and served as a panelist at many industry events on 5G/6G.
Puneet is an active contributor to 3GPP SA2 and TSG SA since 2006. He is the current Chair of 3GPP SA2 since 2019 and previously served as 3GPP SA2 Vice-Chair (2015 - 2019). He has also served as Rapporteur of several study/work items (Rel-11 to Rel-13) - SIMTC, MTCe-SDDTE, AESE, MONTE, FS_AE_CIoT, CIoT, FS_CIoT_Ext, CIoT_Ext, on Machine Type Communication (MTC)/Cellular Internet of Things (CIoT) in 3GPP SA2.
As SA2 Chair, Puneet successfully steered the group from F2F to electronic meetings during the global pandemic. He led the effort on “Use of inclusive language in the 3GPP Specifications” and has been an active contributor to the discussions on improving 3GPP working procedures.
Puneet has served as TSDSI Global SDO Task Force co-chair (2021–2022), and oneM2M Steering Committee Vice-Chair (2014–2016). He was an active contributor to oneM2M Functional Architecture and oneM2M-3GPP interworking aspects.
In his previous roles at Intel, he was Chair of the WiMAX-3GPP interworking sub-team at WiMAX Forum, involved in the design and development of ATM RAN reference implementation for Intel Network Processors and standardization of ATM Functional API at Network Processing Forum.
Prior to Intel, he worked at Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DoT) in India where he led a team for the design and development of Mobility Management and BSS Application Protocol for GSM MSC/VLR and was a key contributor to technical evaluation and network configuration of C-DoT MSC/VLR during the launch of Indian Mobile Personal Communication Services (IMPCS) by Department of Telecommunications, Government of India.
