3rd TAICS-TTA Joint Workshop(Online Webinar)

5G-Advanced and Beyond

Taiwan Association of Information and Communication Standards(TAICS) & Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA) will host the 3rd TAICS-TTA Joint Workshop on Sep. 9 with the support of Chunghwa Telecom. During this workshop, we invite technical experts from Korea and Taiwan to discuss state-of-the-art technology on mobile communications, provide insights into what is coming up next beyond 5G, and share the new trends of global standards. Join us on Sep. 9 and gain first-hand information from experts! We are looking forward to seeing you at this workshop online.
 

為迎接5G-Advanced技術標準以及未來6G技術藍圖,國際標準組織正熱烈討論中。有鑑於此,台灣資通產業標準協會(TAICS)與韓國電信技術協會(TTA)共同於2021年9月9日13:00~16:50在線上舉辦[第3屆TAICS-TTA聯合研討會]。本次主題為 5G-Advanced and Beyond,邀請韓台技術代表共同發表當前標準新趨勢,本活動全程將以英文進行,TAICS會員免費,非會員1500元,動作要快~

Speakers Bio

Dr. Sheng-Lin Chou

Dr. Sheng-Lin Chou is now the Secretary General of TAICS and the Chief of Venture Officer of Information and Communication Research Laboratories at Industrial Technology Research Institute. He got his Ph.D. in Computer Engineering, National Chiao-Tung University in 1992 and his MBA degree in Thunderbird School of Global Management in 2005. Dr. Chou was an Adjunct Associate Professor of CSIE Departments of National Chiao-Tung University from 1992 to 2001. During 2007 to 2010, he served as the General Director of TECO Group Research Institute, and then joined VMAX telecom Co. as the CTO and VP. He rejoined ITRI in 2010 and became the Adjunct Professor of EE Department of National Taiwan University of Science and Technology in the same year. Dr. Chou has devoted himself to Networking and Telecommunication fields for more 30 years altogether and now is the members of Phi-Tau-Phi, Pi Sigma Alpha, and IEEE.

Dr. Kyoung Cheol Koo

Dr. Kyoung Cheol Koo received B.S., M.S. degrees in Industrial Engineering from Hanyang University, Seoul, Korea in 1988, 1992, respectively. He acquired Ph.D degree in Computer Engineering from Paichai University, Daejon, Korea, in 2010. He started his first work at ETRI (Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute), Daejon, Korea in 1992. He transferred to TTA in 2001 and is currently working as Vice-President of TTA. He has had about 29 years research experiences in standardization for ICT. He contributes to a variety of standardization activities in ITU such as ITU-T TSAG, WTSA, ITU-R RA, ITU PP02, etc., as a Korea delegates. He has been the Chair of ITU-T Committee under Korea ITU Committee since 2018. He is also working as HoD in 3GPP PCG/OP, oneM2M SC, GSC (Global Standards Collaboration) and CJK IT Standards Meeting.

Dr. LEE, Hyeon Woo 

Dr. LEE, Hyeon Woo is a Professor at DanKook University in Korea, a TTA 5G Standard Committee chair, and a 5G forum executive committee vice chair. He served as a National R&D Program Director under Ministry of Knowledge Economy of Korea from 2009 until 2013. He was a head of Global Standard & Research Lab. of Samsung Electronics from 1984 until 2009. He received BSEE from Seoul National University in 1985, MBA from Sogang University in 1989, ME and Ph.D  degree at KAIST in 1994 and 2003 respectively. He works on 5G/6G mobile communication, international standards, and R&D strategy planning. He is a member of KICS, IEEE and IEICE.  

Mr. Chungwoo Hwang

Mr. Chungwoo Hwang has been working in Telecommunications standards for more than 15 years. Currently, he is working as a Principal Research Engineer at Infra Lab of KT and has been representing KT as Head of Delegate for 3GPP RAN Plenary more than 10 years. He has been actively involved in standardization of 5G NR and LTE as he is currently working on next generation infrastructure strategy. He has various experience as rapporteur of RAN4 work items on spectrum issues. He is also currently serving as a Vice-Chair of TTA PG1102 (Mobile Wireless Access Project Group).

Prior to 3GPP standardization, he has also been served as Chairman of SPWG(Service Provider Working Group) in WiMAX Forum.

Before joining KT, he was a Senior Engineer in Samsung Electronics covering research and development of WiMAX and HSPA modem. He received B.S. in Communications and Radio Engineering from Yonsei University (1998) and MSc. In Mobile, Personal and Satellite Communications from University of Westminster (2000). He was a Ph.D candidate for Telecommunication in King’s College London (2004).

Howard Yaou Ph.D.

Dr. Yaou received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the National Chiao-Tung university Taiwan in 1993, then he joined Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) as a project manager in CHT’s Telecom Laboratories, where he managed a research team supporting the infrastructure and OSS system deployment of mobile network. Since 2009, he joined CHT‘s Mobile Business Group managing the development of mobile value-added services. Currently, he is the deputy managing director of Corporate Planning Department and is responsible for the mobile network planning.

Dr. Yunsung Kim

Dr. Yunsung Kim received B.S. and M.S. degrees in electronic engineering from Sogang University, South Korea, in 2014 and 2016, respectively. He joined the LG Uplus in 2016 and has worked on the spectrum standardization of LTE and 5G. He started regularly attending 3GPP RAN4 meetings since Rel-15 and has focused on the evolved technologies such as Beyond 5G and 6G. He has been serving as the vice-chairman of TTA PG1102(wireless access) project group.

Prof. Hung-Yu Wei

Prof. Hung-Yu Wei is a Professor in Department of Electrical Engineering and Graduate Institute of Communications Engineering, National Taiwan University. Currently, he serves as Associate Chair in Department of Electrical Engineering. He received the B.S. degree in electrical engineering from National Taiwan University in 1999. He received the M.S. and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from Columbia University in 2001 and 2005 respectively. He was a summer intern at Telcordia Applied Research in 2000 and 2001. He was with NEC Labs America from 2003 to 2005. He joined Department of Electrical Engineering at the National Taiwan University in July 2005. His research interests include next-generation wireless broadband networks, IoT, vehicular networking, fog/edge computing, cross-layer design for wireless multimedia, and game theoretical models for communications networks.

Dr. Wei received NTU Excellent Teaching Award in 2008 and 2018. He also received "Recruiting Outstanding Young Scholar Award" from the Foundation for the Advancement of Outstanding Scholarship in 2006, K. T. Li Young Researcher Award from ACM Taipei/Taiwan Chapter and The Institute of Information and Computing Machinery in 2012, Excellent Young Engineer Award from the Chinese Institute of Electrical Engineering in 2014, Wu Ta You Memorial Award from MOST in 2015, and Outstanding Research Award from MOST in 2020. He has been actively participating in NGMN, IEEE 802.16, 3GPP, IEEE P1934, and IEEE P1935 standardization. He serves as Vice Chair of IEEE P1934 Working Group to standardize fog computing and networking architecture. He serves as Secretary for IEEE ComSoC Fog/Edge Industry Community. He served as an Associate Editor for IEEE IoT journal during 2015~2019. He is an IEEE certified Wireless Communications Professional. He was the Chair of IEEE VTS Taipei Chapter during 2016~2017. He is currently the Chair of IEEE P1935 working group for edge/fog management and orchestration standard.

Dr. Junghoon Lee

Dr. Junghoon Lee received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in Electronic Engineering from Sogang University, Seoul, Korea, in 2003 and 2005, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from Arizona State University, Tempe, in 2014. From  2005 through 2009, he was with LG Electronics, Seoul, as a Senior Research Engineer working on the standardization of 3GPP LTE/LTE-A systems.  From 2014 to 2015, he was with Samsung Electronics, Hwaseong, as a Senior System Engineer working on LTE/LTE-A modem developments. Since December 2015, he has been with Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) as a Principal Researcher working on the standardization of 3GPP 5G NR system.

Dr. I-Kang Fu

Dr. I-Kang Fu received his Ph.D degree from National Chiao-Tung University, Taiwan, in 2007. He is currently a Director of Standard Strategy in MediaTek, contributing to Beyond 5G standardization in 3GPP TSG-RAN, driving new technology initiatives such as cellular/satellite network integration, and exploring pre-6G technology trends. Prior to 5G, he had been actively contributing to B3G and 4G standardization work in IEEE/3GPP since 2005. He is now serving as TAICS TC1 (Advanced Mobile Communication) Chairman position.

Dr. Hyoungju Ji

Dr. Hyoungju Ji received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in electronic engineering from Sogang University, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from Seoul National University. In 2007, he joined Samsung Electronics, where he has been involved in 3GPP RAN1 LTE, LTE-Advanced, LTE-Advanced Pro, and 5G NR technology developments and standardizations. He is currently a Principal Engineer with Samsung Electronics. His current research interests include advanced duplex scheme, multi-antenna techniques, compressed sensing, and millimeter wave communications.

Dr. ChieMing Chou

ChieMing has been working in the wireless industry for almost 15 years. He started attending 3GPP RAN2 meetings since Release11, and has worked on various topics including Dual Connectivity, MTC, LTE/Wi-Fi internetworking, 5G NR.

ChieMing joined Foxconn and built Foxconn’s wireless standards team in 2015, where he is currently managing Spectacular Co.Ltd as Foxconn’s subsidiary concentrating on wireless research and 3GPP activities. Before joining Foxconn, ChieMing has worked in ITRI, MediaTek on standards research.

ChieMing received his PhD degree in Engineering from Chiao Tung University, in 2015.

Dr.  Joon Kui Ahn

Dr. Joon Kui Ahn received his Ph.D degree in Electric and Electronic Engineering from Yonsei University, Korea, in 2001. He is currently working as Principal Engineer in LG Electronics, contributing to 5G standardization in 3GPP TSG-RAN, as well as 5G-Advanced standardization especially in physical layer aspects such as duplexing enhancement, IoT, MIMO, XR, AI/ML etc. He was also involved and actively contributed to various 3G/4G standardization activities in 3GPP TSG-RAN including WCDMA, HSPA and LTE since 2001.
