Mona has 20 years of experience in the field of mobile communications, covering standardisation, technology deployment, solution design, as well as product development. Mona is an active contributor in 3GPP standardisation and is Apple's lead 3GPP delegate in SA plenary, SA1 and SA6. In her previous 3GPP role, Mona chaired the 3GPP Service Requirements group, 3GPP SA1, between 2011-2015, and before that, she also served as SA1 Vice Chairman between 2009-2011. During her time in standardisation, Mona covered a diverse range of topics including edge computing, M2M, femtocells and public safety mission critical communications. Mona had also represented other organisations in 3GPP in the past, including Vodafone and NEC.
Before joining Apple, Mona was a technical specialist with the GSMA's IoT Programme, covering the deployment of 3GPP technologies NB-IoT and eMTC within IoT solutions, as well as IoT security. Prior to this role, Mona collaborated with mobile network operators and global enterprise customers to develop their IoT solutions. Mona had also worked on UTRAN product development projects, as well as initiatives on UTRAN and LTE testing.
Mona received a PhD in Optical Communications from Cranfield University, UK in 2001.
