Prof. CHAO’s research specialty is space payload and ionospheric physics, currently as the Principal Investigator of Advanced Ionospheric Probe onboard FORMOSAT-5 satellite, Compact Ionospheric Probe for various CubeSat missions, and PEARL CubeSats. He is also the regular member of American Geophysical Union (AGU, 2004-), Asia Oceania Geosciences Society (AOGS, 2006-), Japan Geoscience Union (JpGU, 2015-), and European Geoscience Union (EGU, 2019-). Prof. CHAO received BS, Department of Atmospheric Physics, National Central University (NCU), Taiwan in 1992, as well as MS and PhD, Graduate Institute of Space Science (GISS), NCU in 1994 and 2000, respectively. He was an assistant professor at GISS, NCU during 2006-2012, an associate professor during 2012-2021, and has been a full professor since 2021. He was also appointed as a director of GISS during 2017-2020 and as a chair of Department of Space Science and Engineering since 2020. He was one of the founders and served as a chair of Taiwan Association of Space Technology (TASTE) during 2017-2023 and as an executive supervisor of Taiwan Space Industry Development Association (TSIDA) during 2019-2023.
